10 Pandemic Distractions

By Max H. Matthies posted 10-26-2020 14:21

ICLE employees went fully remote on March 19, 2020, and we have been working from home (WFH) since. Every day our department has a daily check-in, and every day, I share with my colleagues an interesting photograph, idea, or website that in some way helped me get through sheltering in place and WFH. Here are a few of my favorites.

  1. Check out What Did Hubble See on Your Birthday? Then take a look at the 30 images in 30 years …. Humbling and right sizing.
  2. This article about functioning communities in the midst of COVID-19 is inspirational.
  3. This video of stunt women can start your day with a POW.
  4. Here are 50 Awesome Facts (About Everything) (i.e., the calcium in our bones and the iron in our blood come from ancient explosions of giant stars)
  5. Play 90’s arcade games without having to dig for quarters.
  6. Take a 3D tour of Pharaoh Ramesses VI Tomb.
  7. Help Shaun, Shirley, and Timmy the sheep find their way home or watch the world’s most relaxing video.
  8. Starlings fly in murmuration … this is one of the most beautiful videos I’ve seen of the event.
  9. Tired of the same old paper airplanes? Here’s a page with about 45 different designs broken down by distance, time aloft, etc.
  10. This is a cool interactive guide to lots of minerals with stunning visuals.

Now this is screen time I don’t have to feel guilty about.
