60 Tech Tips in 60 Minutes Excerpted

After a remote conference last year, the  ABA TECHSHOW reconvened in person in Chicago, March 3-5, 2022.  For the first time in almost a decade, I had to sit this one out, and I had serious FOMO.  After three days of substantive workshops, the TECHSHOW ends the conference with “60 in 60,” a fast-paced, multi-speaker plenary presenting 60 technology-focused tips in an hour.  In 2017, there was a pretty prescient tip recommending Zoom, 2019 offered a little more of an analog tip, and 2020 went downright old school. Still, year after year, the speakers present tips, tools, and resources that run the gamut, and this year was no different.  Here are a few of the tips I thought were helpful and fun.

We are all sitting in our offices in front of a computer or looking at our tablets and smartphones, where we are constantly exposed to too much blue light. Blueblox glasses filter down the artificial blue light spectrum to reduce eyestrain and headaches.

Remote and hybrid work is ubiquitous as are virtual meetings.  The Meeting Owl is a 360 degree camera, mic, and speaker that can help teams who are both remote and in person work together. The Meeting Owl integrates with the video conferencing platforms we are all already using.

If you have to read something for a Zoom meeting and don’t want people to see just the top of your head, this free online teleprompter can be used to read your notes or give a speech while making eye contact with your camera.  I wish I had known about this before I recorded so many Zoom webinars.

Evidently, we will each consume a tree in our lifetime by using traditional notebooks. Using a Rocketbook will save at least a branch or two.  Rocketbooks are reusable notebooks allowing you to handwrite a note, scan and sync that note to the cloud with the free app, and, depending on which model you have, erase the note in your microwave or wipe clean with a damp cloth. Really!  I received Rocketbook in a white elephant gift exchange and did not let it out of my hands.

The Gadget Discovery Club is a subscription box service that brings you four “innovative gadgets” every three months that you can check out, then buy, or return. I’ll let you know how it goes when I get my first box.

You can check out all the tips from 2022, 2021, and 2020 (in pdf).

I also want to remind you about two technology-focused Partnership seminars on the horizon.  Barron Henley will be back in person March 29, 2022, at the Inn at St. John’s presenting The Ins and Outs of PDFs for Lawyers and Law Firms in the morning and then Use Outlook to Organize and Manage High-Volume Email in the afternoon.  Click on the links to register.  These are free to ICLE Premium Partners.
