One thing we consistently hear from ICLE customers is that you want more demonstrations. Even if a lawyer tends to read a book chapter or listen to an MP3 of a webcast to get up to speed on a given practice topic, there is something uniquely helpful about seeing other lawyers in action. Demonstrations are a great way to fill in the gaps if you are new to an area, or you are refreshing yourself on something you haven’t had to tackle in a while. The ICLE Partnership includes dozens of helpful demonstrations, including various types of court hearings, client meetings, depositions, and mediations.
The most recent addition to the collection is Evidence Demo Series: Hearsay and Nonhearsay, featuring Chief Judge Patricia Perez Fresard, attorney Kaitlyn Cramer, and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kanika Ferency. Filmed in the University of Michigan moot courtroom and accompanied by explanatory videos, these demonstrations help viewers distinguish between statements that meet the definition of hearsay under the Michigan Rules of Evidence and statements that are excluded from that definition. This particular set of demonstrations is unique in that it is based on the sample witness examinations in retired judge Joyce Draganchuk’s “Hearsay and Nonhearsay” chapter of ICLE’s Introducing Evidence at Trial book. So, whether you prefer to read the chapter, listen to MP3s, or watch illustrative demos to brush up on the hearsay rules, we have your learning style covered.
Below is a selection of some of the other demonstrations available in your Partnership. Check them out and let us know what you think! If there’s a particular type of demonstration we should consider adding, leave a comment or email me at rebekahp@icle.org.
